Amazing 1880s Antique Mennonite PA rainbow bars quilt with provenance.
This quilt was found at an estate within 9 miles of Harriet Carpenters homestead. We believe that the maker was certainly influenced by what Harriet was doing, and how popular she was. Who was Harriet Carpenter? https://worldquilts.quiltstudy.org/jamesstory/history/grandmacarpenter
Quilt collectors and historians will know how rare a true rainbow Quilt is, and the sky blue fabric is not often seen. We’ve seen this color of blue in some Lancaster county “Bars” or “Joseph coat” Quilts over the years, but never as the background.
Expertly hand quilted at 8 tiny stitches per inch
24.5″ wide calico panels on the back
Thin cotton batting
Hand bound
Measures 88″ x 84″
In great condition with some light tanning/spotting/fold lines. See photos
A very special quilt for the collector, an incredible gift, idea for the quilt lover!
Found in the town of Leola, Lancaster Co., PA.
