This lovely, antique Amish girls cloak (also can be called “mantle” or “plisse”) was made for a young Amish girl, from Lancaster Co, c1920.
Made for a young girl, probably 4-6 years old.
This antique Amish girls cloak has been loved and worn by probably more than one generation.
Made of a deep, dark green, wool crepe. Lined with a black satin and trimmed with black velvet
Treadle and hand sewn.
This sweet piece would have been worn over a dress on a chilly but not too cold day. Hand sewn button holes.
This little cloak measures 24″ long and has 48″bottom circumference. The collar measures 6″ deep. Neck, when snapped closed has a 12″ circumference opening
Fair used condition, there are a some small moth bites (the problem with wool over the years) , and some charming old repairs on the outside at the bottom, as shown in photos. (Our minds wonder how she snagged it!) Very light soil from long term storage. Not for someone looking for perfect, but for someone that would cherish such a wonderful piece from the Amish farmlands of the town, “Bird-in-Hand”, in Lancaster Co., PA.
Are Old Amish Clothing Collectible?
Yes! Older Amish children’s clothing is rare to come across, as the Amish “used up” and “handed down” clothing, so much of it didn’t survive. Older Amish clothing is wonderful to display, on peg hooks or using old wooden hangers. Group with other pieces, they create a fabulous and unique collection that draws your eye to the rich, deep colors and plain, modest design.
Create an exceptional vignette with an Amish quilt in like colors. Gorgeous!
