Amish Bridal Whitework Antique c1900s QUILT #6

$995.00

Bridal quilts are highly sought after, and this Amish Bridal quilt is an incredible to find! Girls were instructed that they must have a bakers’ dozen (13) quilts in their hope chests, prior to marriage. The 13th, would be the bridal quilt and could not be started until the engagement. This quilt would be used on the wedding night, and then put away.

Fun folklore: Family and friends would help, when the stitching was finished, the girls would hold the quilt be the edges and the bride would throw a cat into the middle…the girl closest to the cat as it jumped out would be the next to marry!

This beauty was made in the early 1900s and features a large feathered medallion with tulips. The gridwork is a tight 1″ with 8 tiny stitches per inch. Braided wreath pattern border detail.

Visible pencil pattern marks. Never washed

This one measures 80 x 78″

Handbound.

Excellent condition.

Flaws: Near mint. Not laundered, light spotting. Light age tanning which was too light to photograph.

This exceptional quilt is one of a kind. A true American treasure that was found in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania

Free insured shipping in the USA. International customers, please contact us.
